Flood Modelling

CRC provides specialised expertise in flood modelling across a range of developments across Australia.  Our clients range from home owners to multi-national property developers and covers all development types from single dwellings and large-scale industrial subdivisions, to creek realignments and large infrastructure projects.

Flood modelling allows us to accurately simulate and predict the behaviour of water flow during flood events. By using modern software and data analysis, we simulate different flood scenarios based on factors like rainfall, topography, and land use. This allows us to provide precise assessments and effective strategies to help create flood resistant developments and communities. Our detailed models support informed decision-making to help protect properties and communities from potential flood hazards.

Flood and Overland Flow Assessments

A Flood Study is typically undertaken early in the development process and can encompass localised site-specific areas or larger regional scale assessments.  These assessments typically identify unique flood behaviours to the study area, and areas of potential flood risk, which can then be used to inform site development, strategic planning and zoning decisions.

CRC works closely with developers and various agencies to develop Flood Studies which identify flood risk areas for a range of development scales and flood behaviours.  These assessments can be used to inform Flood Impact Risk Assessments (FIRA), flood and stormwater assessments and emergency response planning for new and existing developments and/or precincts.

Flood Impact Risk Assessments

including climate change sensitivity analyses

Assessing the potential flood risk on a development site, and it’s surrounding environment, is an integral part of the development approval process.  Approving authorities (such as local and state authorities) will require a detailed flood impact assessments to be undertaken as part of a development approval to assess not only the site’s response to flooding, but also the impact the development has on the surrounding properties.

CRC has an abundance of experience liaising with local, state and federal agencies alongside developers and property owners to ensure developments are resilient to flooding and the impacts of climate change, without causing impact on neighbouring properties.

Stormwater Management at Eastern Creek Business Park

Integrated Flood & Stormwater Management System Designs

A development’s response to flooding and its design go hand in hand.  A well-designed building can manage flooding and overland flow safely and efficiency, without significant additional building costs.

We have a proven track record of delivering developments located in flood impacted sites.  Our success is predicated on our teams understanding of the relationship between flood response and building design. We leverage our Civil & Structural engineering expertise alongside our Flood Modelling capabilities to deliver engineering solutions that are resilient, efficient, and have a positive impact on the local community.

Flood Emergency Response Planning

A Flood Emergency Response Plan provides a procedure for safely identifying and executing a response to a flood to minimise risk of isolation or injury of construction workers and building occupants.

CRC works with builders and property managers to compile Flood Emergency Response Plans for a range of developments.
