AWARDS: PrixCar Development Awarded UDIA QLD Environmental Excellence Award

CRC congratulates CIP on winning the UDIA QLD Environmental Excellence Award.

PrixCar

CIP have been announced UDIA 2016 award winners for the PrixCar Services car processing facility at Willawong. CRC provided both civil and structural engineering services for this project.

PrixCar provides a broad range of complex services including vehicle transport, processing, storage, rectification, commissioning and decommissioning, and project management for many of Australia’s automotive manufacturers, importers, and distributors.

CIP partnered with Willawong landowner and local property developer, Chris Matheson, to transform an unstable former landfill site into a state-of-the-art motor vehicle pre-delivery facility tailored to the specific needs of PrixCar, while achieving optimal environmental outcomes through Ecologically Sustainable Development practices (ESD)

The challenge of civil engineering to recycle former landfill sites into premium commercial and industrial properties is where CRC excels. Re-purposing and adding value to urban land is a growing trend and CIP sets high standards for environmental responsibility and sustainability in development and construction across-the-board. We have congratulate CIP, and are honoured to have been involved in this outstanding project.

The 14.65-hectare site, 237 Gooderham Road, Willawong, used as rural grazing land in the 1970s, was converted into a landfill site when commercial operators purchased the property. The site received approximately 1.5 million cubic metres of material over a 30-year period before the owners went into liquidation. Chris Matheson purchased the site in the mid-2000s, noting that “a lot of the landfill was exposed” and attention was needed to “stabilise” the site. Yet, Matheson saw the commercial potential of the site with its B-double access and proximity to major arterial roads, Brisbane Port, Brisbane International Airport, Rocklea Markets, and the Acacia Ridge Rail Marshalling facility.

CIP shared Matheson’s vision in forming a joint venture to develop the site. PrixCar recognised the inherent value in the site’s location, reaching an agreement for CIP to design and construct a purpose-built facility incorporating warehouse and office space of 4,400m², pre-delivery area of 12,500m², pavements of 103,400m², and a hail-netting area of around 47,300m². CRC was involved in the construction as both civil and structural engineers. Not only is the construction declared “excellent” in terms of its environmental achievements, the facility was completed in less than 12 months and is currently valued at approximately $50M following an estimated project value of $43.4M.
