On behalf of the Taylor Construction Group, Costin Roe Consulting completed civil and structural engineering for the construction of the highly automated Australia Post facility at Chullora on the site of a former printing facility acquired by the developer, Charter Hall, from Fairfax Media.
The Australia Post parcel distribution and sorting facility incorporates 7,200sqm of hard stand area and parking for 80 cars, an operational floor area of 21,000sqm including 1,800sqm of office space and amenities, and a new two-lane B-Double interlinking road connecting the new facility to an existing adjacent Australia Post facility. The complex boasts a 4,300sqm super-awning that spans across 10 docks – the largest of its kind in Australia. The operational floor area accommodates a complex automated parcel scanning system which sorts and distributes parcels without need for site labour.
Costin Roe Consulting also completed the civil engineering report which successfully supported the application for the development to the consenting authority, City of Canterbury Bankstown Council, the site also being subject to a State Significant Development Approval. The civil engineering report addressed the site/infrastructure works, stormwater management (water quality and quantity), and erosion control and stormwater management. The engineering objectives for the development included the facilitation of integration between the existing property and expected future surrounding developments over the remainder of the Chullora Logistics Park site, to drain the site by gravity, and to reduce the extent of stormwater retention and provide stormwater management of water quality and quantity.
