Costin Roe Consulting has announced Xavier Cure (B Eng), civil engineer, as the winner of the first-ever Wayne E. Costin Award for outstanding performance in the field of civil and/or structural engineering and commitment to client service by an employee of Costin Roe Consulting.
2016 saw the successful transition of board-level leadership at Costin Roe Consulting from the firm’s founder and former CEO, Wayne Costin, to the new managing director, Grant Roe, with the former associate director, Mark Wilson, becoming a director. Wayne continues to work with the firm as a senior specialist consulting engineer.
Honouring and commemorating founder
One of several initiatives designed to honour and commemorate Wayne’s many years of contribution to the firm and the broader discipline of professional engineering in Australia is the establishment of the annual Wayne E. Costin Award.
Each year from 2016 onward the award, symbolised by an engraved trophy, will be presented to the Costin Roe Consulting engineer who has demonstrated the highest overall standards of technical excellence and diligence; professional development; and communication and collaboration with colleagues, clients, and project partners. Recipients are ultimately decided by the firm’s management team taking into account feedback from direct supervisors in the decision-making process.
Worthy recipient of inaugural Wayne E. Costin Award 2016
In December 2016 the inaugural Wayne E. Costin Award trophy was given to Xavier Cure, who has been with Costin Roe Consulting for more than 6 years. Xavier has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Specialising in civil engineering, Xavier has excelled as an engineer and representative of the firm in recent major commercial, industrial, and residential projects involving subdivisions, earthworks, roads, drainage, and WSUD (water-sensitive urban design) using Civil 3D, 12D, MUSIC, and HEC-RAS.
The director-in-charge of civil engineering at Costin Roe Consulting, Mark Wilson, B Eng (Civil) B Surv ME CPEng, said of Xavier’s achievement, “Xavier is always on-task with a project from beginning to end – no question. He is a role model to our junior civil engineers and respected by his peers in the office. Personally, I would have to say that it is a pleasure to work with Xavier. Over the years, the firm’s management team has enjoyed watching Xavier steadily develop from a promising graduate to the accomplished senior engineer he has now become. For these reasons and others, Xavier is the deserving recipient of the inaugural Wayne E. Costin Award.”
