New Lease on Life for Leaking Rooftop Pool and Terrace

Strata Engineering Solutions Case Study

Challenges

47-53 Cooper St, in the trendy inner-Sydney suburb of Surry Hills, is a multi-level, mixed-use commercial and residential building. The rooftop swimming pool and terrace area, once an asset to the building and enhancement to the lifestyle of residents, had deteriorated to the point of becoming a liability. Several units suffered water damage from rooftop leaks and some façade areas showed signs of deterioration.

Solutions

Strata Engineering Solutions, having previously inspected and reported on water damage and various other defects at the property, was commissioned to inspect and identify the cause of various defects. Works required to common areas included full rooftop remediation with replacement rooftop membrane, paving, pool decking, pool membrane, and tiling, as well as render repairs, crack repairs, concrete spalling repairs, and a new façade/part-remediation. Other works to units involved balcony waterproofing repairs and remediation of internal finishes affected by water ingress.

Result

The rooftop area was transformed into a contemporary outdoor living space with an inviting swimming pool, new timber decking, and terrace floating pavers. Remediation works prevented further leakage and the amenity and appearance of previously-affected apartments could be restored.
